Chapter 17 – A Medicinal Marketplace (药材市场)

Under the admiration of the other stall owners, Jing Yunzhao packed her things and left. She understood that she was only a child. Using such a method to earn money was fine once in a blue moon, but if she were to do it often, she would definitely become the target of jealousy of many.

The scrolls given by the old ancestor contained a martial art technique that also helped nurture the body. She had practised it for a few days in her space and her constitution had improved, but it still wasn’t enough to protect herself. So she still had to be careful.

“Little girl? Were you the one selling those apples just now?” Jing Yunzhao had only taken a few steps when she heard a familiar aged voice coming from behind her.

She turned around and saw Doctor Gan, the county hospital’s doctor who she had asked for help from. The old man was currently dressed in traditional Chinese clothing and seemed like he was out on a walk. He looked completely different than he did in the hospital.

“Doctor Gan, why are you here?” Jing Yunzhao nodded politely and said.

The old doctor laughingly responded, “My daughter had given me some fruits. All of my neighbours liked them and split them all amongst themselves before I, the owner, could even taste one… My daughter had something to do and left, so I could only secretly come here by myself. I was told that the seller looks to be a 15 to 16-year-old girl. I didn’t think it would be you.”

Doctor Gan was very curious. This girl probably hadn’t even reached 16, yet she had already started to set up a stall by herself to earn money?

Then again, it was kind of sad. Her dad was obviously a man who sought nothing but profits. When his wife was bedridden, all he could think of was selling her pills back to the hospital! Furthermore, he had a chance to save his wife, but he had rejected it!

Doctor Gan just couldn’t understand how a man like that could have such a sensible daughter.

The teenager also had a good impression of the elderly man, thus she offered to deliver some of her apples to him at noon the next day. It was her way of thanking him for helping her in the previous incident.

“It’s nothing to thank me for. It should be I who needs to thank you. Oh, speaking of which, I can’t just take advantage of your prescription. Come with me to the bank. I’ll withdraw some money to pay you,” Doctor Gan said hurriedly.

To doctors, prescriptions are very precious. If this lass’ prescription was to be put to good use, not to mention money, even the doctor’s reputation would go up by a lot.

Those studying medicine might not be doing it for the money, but they certainly do care about their reputation to an extent. Additionally, if he were to come across someone with the same illness in the future, he would have to use her prescription. Under such a situation, however, she would suffer a huge loss.

The medical skills that Jing Yunzhao had been reading up recently were mostly methods used by the people of the past. The skills within the Spirit Jade contained some rules, along with repeated reminders from the Old Ancestor about the importance of the prescriptions. Therefore, she understood Doctor Gan’s offer.

The old doctor’s character was good. If she was to reject this money, he would definitely start to worry about it.

On the other hand, this prescription was something that she had asked him to check. If she accepted it, she believed it would be too impudent of her.

She thought about it and said, “I don’t need the money, but I have something I’d like for you to assist me with.”

“Oh?” Doctor Gan had a curious face.

“I want to buy some medicinal seeds, but I don’t have any experience. Also, I only have a few hundred yuan. If I were to go alone, at my age, I will definitely get scammed. So I would really appreciate it if Doctor Gan could help me. If you have time, can you please take me the medicinal material marketplace? As an experienced TCM doctor, you must be very familiar with these things,” explained Jing Yunzhao.

Doctor Gan was even more curious now.

At the hospital one week ago, this girl said that she had a Shifu. At that time, he was worried about the condition of the patient so he didn’t get the chance to ask about the details. Looking at her right now, she seems like a complete amateur. Which famous doctor’s tutelage is she under?
